GOES-R - AWG Proxy Data

Convective Initiation

In support of the Aviation Algorithm Working Group, RAMMB provided simulated ABI imagery (11 bands) for the 27 June 2005 severe weather event to the team at the University of Alabama/Huntsville. That group is taking the lead on developing a GOES-R Convective Initiation (CI) algorithm, and they're interested in using our simulated data to help test and develop their CI algorithm. Future plans include providing simulated data for an additional severe weawther case.

Example of the simulated imagery at 3.9 µm from 27 June 2005. The white boxes highlight two storms with significantly different 3.9 µm radiances.
