The Marisat series was taken over by INMARSAT (the INternational MARine SATellite organization) in 1981. Marots was a proposed experimental system that was never launched but changed into the operational Marecs series, which were in effect the first-generation Inmarsat series, followed by the second-generation Inmarsat-2 series, etc.
