The ESA European Remote Sensing (ERS) series from the 1990s, should not be confused with the USAF Environmental Remote Sensing (ERS) series of scientific/research/technology satellites launched in the 1960s.

1The ERS satellites did not carry a lidar instrument, and the stamp incorrectly refers to a "lidar satellite". The graphic above the satellite probably shows lidar returns (vertical axis) versus time (horizontal axis) obtained from a ground-based lidar instrument.
