VISIT Frequently Asked Questions 1. How long do these sessions last ? 2. Can I use these sessions for on-station training ? Yes. A batch file called "visitlocal.bat" is included with the VISITview lesson download. This allows a forecast office to view and control a lesson "locally", without the requirement of being connected via the Internet with an instructor. Instructor notes or "talking points" are also available for each lesson, which describe the most important points that should be addressed on each "page" of the VISITview lesson. The audio with annotations (recorded) version may also be used, see question 11 of the FAQ (below).
A certificate of completion, after the point of contact supplies us with names of
participants in the followup evaluation email. Please allow 1 to 2 months for the certificates to arrive at your office depending on volume.
1) Click on the print button within the controls frame of the VISITview presentation. 2) The web-page version is opened in the browser and once the page to be printed comes up you press the print button on your browser. The web-page version links are found on the student guides for each session, click on "Web-based training session":
6. What do I do if I get the error message "out of environment space" when trying to
run the visitlocal.bat file?
Open the config.sys file for editing. Find the 'shell=' command and make it look something like this: shell=c:\command.com /p /e:1024 (actually, just add the "/e:1024" to whatever you have) Then find the "files=" and make the value 80 files=80(if there is no files=, put one in at the bottom) Then reboot the machine and run visitlocal.bat again. If you still have problems send email to visitview@ssec.wisc.edu
7. How do I print the VISIT calendar signup web-page onto one page?
8. If I have problems during the VISITview teletraining session what do I do? See the Troubleshooting VISITview Training Sessions web-page.
9. When starting the VISITview lesson (e.g. with visit.bat or visitlocal.bat) I get an error message saying "jre.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program." You will see this error if your computer is a Pentium 4 and you are using a VISITview lesson made before the Fall of 2001. Older versions of the jre do not work with Pentium 4's. The solution is to download the latest lesson off the VISIT homepages.
10. How do I obtain a certificate of completion if I have taken a video taped version of the teletraining session or The SOO / focal point should send an email to visit@comet.ucar.edu with the name of session and student that participated
11. How do I make available recorded VISITview training sessions to my office via an intranet?
