The theoretical concepts introduced in this course are the simplest concepts needed to explain CG lightning activity in typical warm season thunderstorms. These concepts link easily with established knowledge on storm dynamics and microphysics, allowing forecasters to see the value of CG lightning data and utilize it quickly.
Material from Lightning Meteorology I is applicable to some aspects of warm season severe thunderstorms and cold season thunderstorms. However, the CG lightning activity in these storm types is often substantially different from that found in the typical storm. Lightning Meteorology II examines the differences.
