1"Cyclone" is sometimes used as a colloquial term for "tornado". For such usage see the tornadoes, waterspouts, and dust devils page.
2Card cut from October page of International Kniga 1986 space calendar.
3The typhoon (warning) tower was used as a signal to inform fishermen and other mariners when they could sail into or out of the port.
4The Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale is a 1 to 5 rating based on a hurricane's sustained wind speed. Category 3 and higher hurricanes are considered major hurricanes because of their potential for significant loss of life and property damage. Category 1 and 2 storms, while weaker, can still be dangerous. For more detail see the Saffir-Simpson wind scale.
