This page contains (selected) philatelic information on the GPS (Global Positioning System) / NAVSTAR (NAVigation System using Timing And Ranging) (and other navigation-constellation satellites). Catalog numbers, years of issue, and notes on the satellites featured are given when available. If readers know of additional information or images, please contact the authors using the e-mail addresses at the bottom of this page.
There are currently 24 to 32 satellites in the US GPS / NAVSTAR constellation (including satellites in operation and extras in case of failures).
Other emerging or planned constellations, which go by the generic name of "global navigation satellite system (GNSS)" include:
This list includes the European Space Agency (ESA) Galileo-series satellites launched in the 2000s only, not to be confused with the single (USA) Galileo satellite launched in 1989, both of which are named after Galileo Galilei (1564 - 1642).
Because of the similarity between BD-1 and DFH-3, these two may be mis-identified.
